Educational Goals

    The courses in this department are focused on accounting principles, theories and practice. To respond to the trend that traditional accounting practice is gradually replaced by the computer system running and the Internet outsourcing, students are trained to be familiar with using computer hardware and software, the Internet, ERP, information mining and other latest applications of information technologies on accounting. All professional courses are instructed by professional teachers with accountant certificate or abundant industrial experiences. Information courses are mainly given in computer classrooms. To enhance students’ employment compatibility, both the accounting and information courses encourage students to obtain associated professional certificates.In order to increase learning effects, financial accounting is divided into two groups: “accountant proficiency” and “firm accounting” which are instructed separately. “Accountant proficiency” is instructed using English teaching materials with a purpose to increase learning width, while “firm accounting” uses Chinese materials to increase the depth of actual practice. It is hoped that such a lecturing method can help to enhance students’ compatibility and competence in future careers.

Business Characteristics

When facing all kinds of clients, employees need to pay attention to different accounting treatments in different business fields, such as financial securities, department stores, manufacturers, etc. Due to their different business characteristics, different regulations are required fortheir accounting treatments.

Employees need to have a full understanding of relevant accounting treatments in the company’s industry they are working for, including the operation of billing system, the communication with other departments, the analysis of financial statements, etc.

The Nature of Work Characteristics

            1.Due to the possibility that clients may have difference in registered country, industry, scale and organization characteristics,employees need to have a full understanding of the accounting treatments which are appropriate for their clients.

            2.Due to different locations of their clients, employees often need to go on a business trip to visit either their sales office or factory regularly.

            1.Employees are required to have a full understanding of the billing treatments in the company they are working for, including how a transaction starts, how it enters the company’s billing system, how it is checked and confirmed, etc.

            2.Work location is relatively stationary. The need for employees to go on a business trip depends on the company they are working for.

Required Work Characteristics

           1.To cope with the unexpected questions from their clients, employees are required to have all kinds of knowledge and skills for their professional services

            2.Due to different kinds of accounting calendars, services provided and time required, the pressure for

            ·  Work is relatively stationary and unexpected circumstances seldom occur. Employees are required to have a clear idea of the work they are doing.

            ·  Work for accountants is usually routine, such as payday an balance sheet date. Therefore, it employees to finish their work before deadline is relatively high and heavy, peak season often occurs and it is common to work overtime during the period.

            ·   When facing all kinds of clients, employees are required to have an active and optimistic attitude, and have high EQ so that they are capable of taking this job.

            2.Work for accountants is usually routine, such as payday and balance sheet date. Therefore, it is easier for employees to control their own time.

           3.It is easier for employees to get to know the company culture, especially when they are working in the same environment.

            ·  They may work at a securities company or a private enterprise related to financial accounting fields.

Recommended Future Development Directions

          3. They may take the senior exams for government accountants and auditors.

          5. They may take entrance exam for admission to graduate school of Accounting.

     To strengthen students’ training of professional knowledge, since the academic year of 2007, the curriculum in our department has been categorized into 3 modules, Accounting, Tax and Information. Students in our department are required to complete at least one of the three modules to be qualified to graduate with a certification issued by our department to prove that they have finished the module.
